Now that the craziness from the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show is over, it’s time to reflect on what we saw— the significant, the ugly, and, of course, the cool. The following list is our top five picks of the coolest debuts at Frankfurt.
1. Ford Evos concept

File this under “Origami Gone Wild.” The Ford Evos concept features four massive doors that operate gullwing style and front seats that appear to hover over the floorboard. Those features obviously won’t make it into a production car anytime soon, but a few of the design cues should. According to Ford’s J Mays, “85 to 90 percent of what you see here, you’ll see this design DNA in short order coming to production.” He’s likely referring to the coupe-like roofline that is currently featured on the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Volkswagen CC, as well as the trapezoidal shapes used for the grille and the taillights. Ford is tight-lipped on what product will debut the new design language, but we wouldn’t be surprised if shows up on the upcoming Ford Fusion. |
