In 2010, Ford announced plans to offer seven new Lincoln models in an effort to boost the brand’s image and compete in the luxury car market against Audi and BMW. Rumors had it that amongst the new models would be a production version of the Concept C called the Lincoln MkC. The MkC would reportedly be built on a Ford Focus platform and would include an array of new technologies to compete with competitors like the Audi A3 and Lexus CT 200h luxury hybrid.
Soon after, Ford assembled a team of experts that included designers, engineers, and luxury experts to spearhead the revamped Lincoln project.
Ford Inside News reports today that Lincoln has scuttled plans to produce the MkC, fearing that the vehicle would cut into sales of the MkZ sedan. In the compact segment, Lincoln will reportedly concentrate on their new CUV, which is internally designated as the MkD.
The MkD is rumored to be built on the new Ford Escape platform. According to Ford Inside News, the MkD looks more like a tall hatchback rather than a traditional CUV.
