Refreshing or Revolting: 2013 Ford Fusion

Ford has gone European with the 2013 Fusion midsize sedan. There’s no mistaking the new and refined appeal of the sedan at every angle. The Aston-Martin like front grille contrasts sharply with the unapologetic three-bar chrome grille on the last-generation Fusion pictured in the photo gallery below. So the 2013 Fusion is different, but is it better?

The new Ford sedan features more menacing headlights than the 2010 Fusion pictured below. The surfacing on the hood also distinguishes the new Fusion from the outgoing model but, thankfully, Ford hasn’t added side vents to the new car. The side view mirrors are now mounted on the doors and there’s a new character line running through the door handles.

Chrome lines the side windows of the 2013 Ford Fusion, which features a new rear quarter window not seen on the 2010 Ford Fusion. From the rear, the 2010 model appears more traditional while the 2013 Ford has a roofline that flows gently to the top of the trunk lid. From a visual standpoint, there’s almost nothing shared between the two Fusions from the rear.  Inside, the navigation screen stays in the same place on the 2013 Fusion as it was on the last model, below the central air vents. Predictably, Ford has integrated the MyFord Touch Sony controls, replacing the conventional controls on the 2010 car. The redone steering wheel now has buttons on the top of the spokes and the trim surrounding the gear selector is classier.
